Diane Barber, PhD, APRN, ANP-BC, AOCNP, is the Manager of Advanced Practice Providers in the Department of Investigational Cancer Therapeutics at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in Honolulu, Hawaii. She then completed her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, followed by her Doctorate in Nursing from the University of Texas at Tyler in Tyler, Texas. 
 
Dr Barber has more than 30 years of nursing experience in general surgery, orthopedics, and oncology. She has authored several peer-reviewed articles and has presented nationally and internationally on oncology-related topics. Her current research interest is the role of advanced practice providers in the outcomes of patients with cancer.

Pelin Cinar, MD, MS, is an Associate Clinical Professor specializing in gastrointestinal oncology with an interest in pancreatic cancer at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). She also serves as the Medical Director of Quality and Safety at UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (HDFCCC). In this role, she oversees all internal and external quality improvement and patient safety initiatives related to cancer. 
 
Dr Cinar earned her medical degree and completed her residency in internal medicine at the University of California, Irvine. She received her fellowship training in hematology and oncology at UCSF, where she was appointed chief fellow. 
 
In 2014, Dr Cinar joined the faculty of the Stanford Cancer Center as a gastrointestinal oncologist. She was also Assistant Medical Director for Cancer Care Quality and Associate Director for Quality and Curriculum for the Oncology Fellowship Program at Stanford. In 2015, she was selected to participate in the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s Quality Training Program. She currently serves as a faculty/coach for this program. In 2016, she was recruited back to UCSF to develop the Quality and Safety Program for the UCSF Cancer Center. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Cinar led the response and mitigation strategies at UCSF HDFCCC.
 
In addition to her role at UCSF, Dr Cinar leads the quality efforts for the UC Cancer Consortium, a consortium of the 5 University of California Comprehensive Cancer Centers. She also serves as an Associate Editor for JCO Oncology Practice

Kirollos S. Hanna, PharmD, BCPS, BCOP, is Assistant Professor of Pharmacy at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota, and the Oncology Pharmacy Manager at M Health Fairview – Maple Grove in Maple Grove, Minnesota. Dr Hanna received his doctorate of pharmacy from Florida A&M University. He then completed his PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, followed by his PGY2 oncology residency at St. Luke’s Mountain States Tumor Institute in Boise, Idaho. He is board certified by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties in Oncology Pharmacy and Pharmacotherapy.
Dr Hanna’s research interests are focused on B-cell malignancies and genitourinary cancers. He has published more than a dozen peer-reviewed manuscripts in various journals, including Pharmacotherapy, American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, Drugs, Journal of Oncology Pharmacy Practice, American Journal of Managed Care, and Journal of Hematology Oncology Pharmacy. He is also an active member of the Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association, Association of Community Cancer Centers, Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation, and American College of Clinical Pharmacy.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected nearly every aspect of oncological practice because of the increased risk to patients with cancer and the impact on health care resources. This has led to rapid changes in when, where, and how to provide diagnostic procedures, treatment, and follow-up care. There is an urgent need to provide cancer care professionals with guidance, training, and support as they respond to unprecedented challenges in maintaining high-quality patient care. This educational activity will help oncology care teams maintain high-quality care in light of the pressing demands of the COVID-19 pandemic. 


TARGET AUDIENCE

This educational initiative is designed for medical oncologists, oncology nurses, oncology physician assistants, oncology nurse practitioners, and pharmacists involved in the care of patients with cancer during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Albert Einstein College of Medicine-Montefiore Medical Center and Spire Learning.
